The Power of Blended Learning in K-8

In EDLD 5317, I began writing to hopefully publish in an educational journal. This course focused me to be aware of my intended audience and seek to gain momentum with buy in and credibility of the work I am doing with my innovation plan. First, I established a publication outline. This was used to organize my thoughts and plan out my publication to articulate my story with purpose, while keeping my intended audience in mind, as I intentionally met the requirements of publications that I will submit my article to in hopes of being published.

This course has nudged me to publish my work, and I chose to focus on sharing my journey with blended learning in hopes to inspire other educators to take the leap and think differently about their role as an educator. Since my innovation plan is to implement blended learning in K-8 classrooms in my district, this article will speak to my intended audience, and share a relatable story with quantitative results that I believe will get buy in from educators in my district and beyond.

In my publication article, I share my personal experience with blended learning in a kindergarten classroom, where we used iPad devices as our vehicle to access personalized learning, capture, create, submit, and share feedforward with scholars. Blended learning empowered my learners to embrace choice, joy, and creativity in the learning process. I explain how I implemented blended learning with our youngest scholars, what it looked like, and the amazing growth that came from this model , as measured by NWEA Map nationally normed testing data. I plan to submit my article to both Educational Technology Publications and Edutopia in hopes of being published and shared with a greater audience. Getting published would also give me more credibility when bringing my innovation plan to my district for implementation.
