Reflecting on my contributions to our learning community 5313 & 5389

Reflecting on my contributions this term, I notice growth in my collaboration efforts too collaborate and seek out peer feedforward.  My core group grew from just one partner to a group of four, including the original, Tonya Logan, and expanded to include Valery Patterson and Kelly Skillingberg. The past sessions, Tonya and I worked closely together, but I reached out in the introduction posts to classmates in both classes that worked with adult learners and/or were implementing blended learning as their innovation plan. Our core group of four developed from those conversations. We all had at least one of the two courses together (5313), and it made sharing past experiences of courses as well as connecting other classes in the program to more deeply understand the big picture. It was great to have this small but tight nit group because we developed trust and accountability to each other as well as served as cheerleaders to keep going when things were overwhelming. It was great to have three other sets of eyes and perspectives to provide guidance and encouragement to the journey. We collaborated the most on the 3 Column Table assignment(s) and the UbD assignment(s) that all seemed to blend between the two classes.  It was really nice to feel very focused and grow deeper in my  understanding around the planning process, especially for professional learning. Everyone in our group was responsive and willing to jump in and clarify and give feedforward any day and any time. Another peer that came out of the initial introduction posts is Shannon Bowles.  We texted less frequently and hopped on a call one time to talk about adult learning and how we can organize our 3 Column table plans to work for our implementation plans.  It was helpful to have a thought partner that works with K-12 educators for her work.

I was also part of a much larger GroupMe chat thread that includes fifty two members, at different points in their journey, from the ADL program. This was a great collaborative space to get feedforward from peers and gain clarity on assignments from a variety of perspectives.  This thread was blowing my phone up all day long, and it was difficult to keep up with, but I did take time each night to scan through and answer any questions that I could, and utilized this thread to ask for another set of eyes on my work and clarify assignment expectations and class times, especially for 5389.

Revising assignments was much easier for me this session because I had classmates to help clarify changes and also provide suggestions to improve.  I was able to go into every assignment and make revisions, and sometimes multiple times because the two classes had overlap with strategies and concepts, such as the 5 principals of professional learning, the 3 Column table, and UbD framework. The 3 Column table was made more detailed to include the 5 principals for professional learning in 5389, and the UbD framework build out in 5313 got reworked to become an actual professional learning plan with all of the resources linked and times accounted for. I was able to do this for the implementation section of the 3 column table in 5389, and plan to comb through and add the details to each section to have a robust plan to utilize in my district. I would complete an assignment and then go back and revise it based on something I learned in the other class. It felt like a great use of time to have these particular classes at the same time. This combination was a catalyst for the strengthening of my growth and learners mindset.  I definitely feel that my growth mindset and learners mindset are growing stronger because I feel such satisfaction when I make improvements to my work to make it better, knowing it will continue to evolve.  I was less focused on grades and more focused on feedback from my instructors and peers.

Although 5389 was more individually paced and guided, I was able to complete all of the course readings, watch the videos, and check out supporting resources. I was able to attend most of the synchronous class times for 5313, but had to miss about half of 5318 synchronous class times due to conflicts with my job (board meetings, conference). Having the flexibility to watch the class recordings helped keep me on track and understanding the direction of weekly assignments.  The class discussions also worked well for my learning journey in both classes, as they encouraged reflection of the learning and connecting with the perspectives of others.

In 5313, I was able to meet all of the class deadlines indicated in the calendar for all assignments, and for 5389, I was granted a one day extension for the last submission due to a family situation. This session, due to the nature of how closely aligned the two classes were, I was able to manage the workload and keep pace with the course outlines. I appreciated the overlap of material that allowed me to make connections and deeper meaning to evolve my innovation plan implementation. Both courses, for me, had a connection to the learning, and because my role is on the adult learning side, the cross over was strong and beneficial to my growth and development.

The class discussions served as a great way to engage with the various class resources and make meaning of the content.  I was able to keep up with contributing in class discussions with deep reflection and thinking, supported with research and resources cited using the APA format.  I also spent time reading through peer responses and made additional postings to respond to peers, at least two for each discussion, that contributed to the learning in our communities. In 5313, the scheduled post due dates did help me stay engaged with course materials on a timely basis.  5389 required much more independent accountability, but I was able to get those in as well.

Overall, I was happy with my engagement and contributions this session. I was more engaged with peers to learn and grow in comparison to previous sessions. I believe this is due to my comfort with the design of the ADL program, intentionally working on my growth and learners mindset, and having the just right size for my peer group.  This is my 3rd session of courses, and I am feeling more comfortable on this learning journey at this point.  I  have really strengthened my awareness of developing and fostering a growth mindset in myself and others at this point.  Having three reliable and friendly thought partners in my core group brings me s sense of calm and accountability.  This is the first time in my ADL journey that I feel I actually nailed the contributions portion of the classes!  Score 95

Your content is excellent but with pics and video clips, this website could definitely be one of the most beneficial in its niche. Very good blog!
