The ADL program did a fabulous job of prompting self-reflection, and cultivating opportunities to grow as good leaders. A good leader must be able to think differently, plan, be reflective, be willing to fail to learn, and willing to learn from and create trusting relationships with a diverse network. 

As I consider my next steps in leading organizational change in my district, I want to reflect on what worked, what I can do better, and some of the lessons I learned over the past year. 

 The ADL program intentionally prepared us for this by having us identify where we were looking to anticipate change, by developing a “why” that grounded our innovation plans. The program encouraged collaboration and networking with our peers from the very beginning, and also encouraged us to try our innovation ideas out and evolve as we go. On the backside, this was instilled through the way we did our work, always allowing for improvement and trying again to make improvements on any assignment. 

This model worked well for me, as I now have a solid plan for implementing my innovation plan in my district. I also really appreciated the ability to constantly improve, with the focus being just that rather than a grade. I think I can improve on my collaboration in the future, with more intentional focus on diversifying who I am collaborating with to gain a better variety of perspectives and experiences. 

I anticipate my innovation plan being effective in our district K-8 classrooms, and want to ensure that I get a diverse group of educators to join the first cohort of implantation.  I want to be intentional in getting feedforward from them to make the innovation plan the best it can be for future cohorts, and get my district educators on board to achieve our shared goal of student success.   

Honestly, this last session has been very difficult to stay afloat with the course work, collaboration, and providing feedforward with my core group. I have had some personal family issues to attend to, and a very demanding load from my job, but am proud of myself for powering through and completing all assignments, discussions, and providing feedforward in the discussion posts. Most of my core group has already graduated, so it was hard to start over this late in the game, but I did find myself using my other networks to seek feedforward and perspective on my work. 

I did not receive much feedback/feedforward on my assignments this go around, but did go back in and make the spelling corrections noted and small changes suggested as well as add references to my 5318 page. The most editing was done on my blended learning course, in which I received feedforward from teachers in my district on. This project was very impactful and authentic for me, and I excited to see what implications it has on my district.

I was active in both of the class discussions and forums available reflecting depth of thinking and using APA when needed. I did post timely, and tried to provide meaningful responses to my peers, even additional posting to contribute to the learning community.  I also completed the course readings, watched the videos, and looked at supporting resources to deepen my learning.  The flexility of the readings and watching of videos was very helpful with my busy full-time working mom life schedule. I met the various course activity deadlines indicated in the calendar, accept for this one post in 5320 because I was in a place in Maine, on my family vacation, where my internet connection wasn’t working. This post is on time for 5318.

I have enjoyed my learning journey in the accelerated ADL program at Lamar university, and have grown and evolved this year because of it. Thank you for providing such a relevant and worthwhile graduate program.
