Importance of Learning Communities

I have way too many to list, but I would like to share three that I am most engaged in. I am active on twitter with the @AppleEDU community. This is a place where ideas and resources are exchanged regularly. Unfortunately this looks like it is going to shift due to the recent climate on twitter, but none the less I will be following this community where it goes. I also have a close group of Apple Distinguished Educators that I talk to frequently via group text thread. We exchange questions, problems, ideas, and so much more. This group text chat was started in the summer of 2019 and has been going strong with daily messages ever since. The last community is my past school’s “teacher sharing page” on Facebook. This is a private page where all educators at my past school post tips, tricks, and share ideas for teaching and learning with Apple products. This school is an Apple Distinguished School full of growth mindset educators who are willing and able to continue to innovate, take risks, and evolve their craft. I am one of the admins for this page, and I love this safe space that encourages and validates our newer members that they have incredible ideas to share.

These groups are valuable to me because they keep me abreast to the latest trends in educational technology. These groups not only support me when I need advice or troubleshooting help, but also encourage me to bring crazy ideas to life and continue to take risks.

It is also so very important to continue to branch out, elevate others, and include others on their journeys by inviting them into these communities. Watching some of my colleagues blossom because of networks they have joined is a powerful story of building capacity.

  1. I haven’t checked in here for a while since I thought it was getting boring, but the last few posts are good quality so I guess I’ll add you back to my daily bloglist. You deserve it my friend 🙂
